Remixing Discourses of Sustainability

What is sustainability? As practices devoted to the mindful tuning of human habitats to the freedoms and constraints of ecosystems, sustainability begins with the deployment of rhetorical practices for visualizing, mapping, narrating and arguing for visions of any given ecosystem. This course will review global definitions, concepts and discourses of sustainability, remixing them toward practices inhabitable by 21st century econauts. Students will work with the Center for Sustainability composing multimedia rhetorical tools - such as user friendly technical writing, video, sound and web design - to help remix and propagate practices of sustainability in Central Pennsylvania and across the increasingly informatic biosphere.
